DEACON KING KONG WINS OPENING ROUND.

"Deacon King Kong" by James McBride has defeated "Tender is the Flesh" by Agustina Bazterrica. Deacon King Kong is one of my favourites for the title. I did not get to read Tender is the Flesh, but by following various groups who follow the TOB, I don't believe that this result will come as too much of a surprise. Click on the book for my review.

The judge for this round was Tobias Carroll.

Tobias Carroll is the managing editor of Vol.1 Brooklyn and writes the Watchlist column about books in translation for Words Without Borders. He is the author of three books: Political Sign, a work of nonfiction in the Object Lessons series; Reel, a novel; and Transitory, a story collection. He lives in Brooklyn. Known connections to this year’s contenders: “None.”
