The longlists for the 2023 Australian Indie Awards have been posted. With so many books and so little time, I have only concentrated on the FICTION, and DEBUT FICTION categories.
Of the ten books in the FICTION longlist, I have only read one, but it was one of my favourite reads of the year. SEEING OTHER PEOPLE by Dianna Reid was a five star read for me, and every bit as good as her debut LOVE AND VIRTUE. I have loved everything Robbie Arnott has written and I am eager to read "Limberlost". Somehow it has passed me by, but I have a copy on its way. Who has not heard of HORSE by Geraldine Brooks, it is also arriving shortly. It's a very strong longlist.
With the nine books of the DEBUT FICTION longlist I have read three, and I enjoyed them all. Of the three JESUSTOWN by Paul Daley was probably my favourite. However WAKE and DIRT TOWN were both highly enjoyable reads as well. I have also heard many good things about EVERY VERSION OF YOU by Grace Chan.
